Click the logo below see SDFAS in Metropolitan Home Magazine. They unfortunately incorrectly wrote that "Urban Trees" are part of San Diego Fine Art Society's Phantom Gallery project. What was intended was that several of the Port of San Diego's "Urban Tree" sculptures were in the SDFAS Phantom Gallery "Sculpture in the Gardens"... I guess there were too many titles and it got confusing. Still, it was very nice to get the mention!

Fine Art Society provides business mentoring to flourishing artists

Artists learn about composition, texture, lines and color as they develop their craft. When art becomes an occupation and a business, learning the skills to excel in the industry can often feel like a blank canvas.
"Knowing the business of art is vital to success," says April Game, founder and CEO of the San Diego Fine Art Society. "No Masters of Fine Arts program teaches artists how to address gallery directors or how the art market works."
From that realization, the S.D. Fine Art Society was born in 2007 -- the nonprofit recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. The heart of the organization is its mentor program, designed to connect talented, up-and-coming artists with accomplished professionals who have conquered the field's business side.
"We help match artists with art lovers, art collectors and art buyers," Game said. "We also help artists learn to be business savvy with skills like public speaking and presentations."
The organization helps artists grow their business and reputation by sponsoring public art, like the current outdoor exhibit at Encinitas' Quail Botanical Gardens, on display until November.
In conjunction with its goal of helping artists become more successful, Game's nonprofit strengthens the role of art throughout the San Diego region by increasing local communities' cultural experiences, exposure and accessibility.
